Quantum Chaotic
Consciousness in
Psychology

Roslyn Snyder

Science and patterns
  • Science is based on discovering underlying patterns

  • Patterns make the complex simple

  • Quantum chaos is a pattern that allows complexity within a simple framework

What is quantum chaos?
  • Quantum chaos is a pattern of the real world (Stockman, 1999) supported mathematically

  • Consciousness is an awareness

  • Quantum chaotic consciousness is a being aware of the principles of quantum chaos.

  • For psychology, the mind is a fractal of the universe.

Core principles of quantum chaos (see Abraham & Gilgen (eds), 1995)

  • Interdependent
  • Non-linear
  • Fractal
  • Dynamic
  • Infinite
  • Integrated
  • Complete
  • Relational
  • Self-organised
  • Anchored at zero
  • The natural order of life
  • Symmetrical

Is psychology ready?
  • Roger Sperry (1995) describes the change of logic from a reductionist to a world view in psychology in relation to the study of consciousness

  • This opened the door to studies in spirituality and culture

  • But common psychology methodology has difficulty accounting for multidimensional nature of these constructs, quantum chaos is a possible way forward for research in psychology

The framework...
The triple world triple realm nature of life
  • structures and organises quantum chaos reflecting the social consciousness of the Western world (Kuhn, 1996)

  • Unifies science, arts and spirituality

  • Easily applied and lived

  • Coherence between theory, laws, application and instrumentation based on core scientific principles of quantum chaos

Why?
  • Most experienced clinicians understand the complexity of the therapeutic process, which follows the principles of quantum chaos, as does every thing, most psychological theories do not.

  • Psychological measurements and methodology tend not to reflect the multidimensional nature of the construct.

  • Understanding quantum chaos allows for simple inclusive integrated models and frameworks.

What are the applications?
  • Human minds, families, society and other systems need to be connected, evolving and expanding

  • Human beings need to be aware that they are part of the pattern of life

  • When they are not they become:
    • Disconnected
    • Contaminated
    • Limited

  • Which leads to Chronic disease, either mental or physical

  • Life is simple: any amoeba manages this!

What needs to happen?
  • Psychologists need to develop quantum chaotic understanding of life so that they can work from tacit knowledge and deliver appropriate interventions effortlessly. (Sharpless and Barber, 2009).

  • Plus develop integrated, inclusive research methodology that reflects world views. An example Jackson, (2007)

Clinical psychology
  • "After thousands of studies and generations of theorizing, few interventions derived from theory appear to be uniquely successful and none account for the major source of variance in client change" (pg1 Dowd, 2006)

  • The major source of variance is the relationship between the client and the therapist

Benefits to clinical psychology
  • More creativity when working with people

  • Expansion of evidence based therapeutic techniques anchored in scientific theory

  • Ability to provide pathways for people with severe mental illness

  • Infinite possibilities

Community psychology
  • Begin the process toward an integral humanity

  • Promote inclusiveness, connection and integration

  • See, confront, re-shape and create new choices for yourself and fellow beings

Benefits to community psychology
  • Build stronger communities

  • Creative common vision

  • Change through individual or group empowerment

  • Integrative counselling

  • Develop inclusive values and goals

  • Infinite possibilities

Organisational psychology
  • Webs of connection within, between and surrounding organisations

  • Empowering individuals within organisations

  • Managing organisational change

Benefits to organisation psychology
  • Building stronger more empowered organisations

  • Shared vision within the organisation

  • Creating effective groups

  • The pulse, harmony and rhythm of the organisation is in tune

  • Infinite possibilities

What to do now?
  • Start to live as one of one while maintaining your individuality

  • Find the centre of your life and connect to your nature

  • Discover the meaning in your life and your impact on others

  • And be a psychologist that is in tune with themselves and therefore in tune with the universe!
